I have to admit that I’m not a huge fan of ice creams and maybe that’s why I haven’t tried making one myself. I don’t even own an ice cream maker so I had to use the simple method which requires stirring the ice cream every once in a while. Although you won’t achieve the same texture, I think the flavor is pretty nice and I suggest you give this recipe a try.
Chocolate Oreos ice cream
4 egg yolks
180 grams of caster sugar
400ml whole milk
400ml double cream
50 grams cocoa powder
100 grams dark chocolate, chopped
1 teaspoon vanilla
8 Oreo cookies
Whisk the yolks and sugar until pale in color.
Combine milk, cream and cocoa powder and heat until just starting to simmer.
Temper the egg yolks by adding 1/4 of the hot liquid and whisking constantly.
Add the rest of the liquid and transfer back to the stove.
Cook on low heat stirring for 4-5 minutes or until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
When it’s ready, pour it over the chopped chocolate and let it sit for 30 seconds.
Then stir until everything is combined and the mixture is smooth.
Cover with cling film and cool completely, then chill at least an hour in the fridge.
Transfer the mixture in a freezer safe dish and freeze for 2-3 hours taking it out
every 30-40 minutes to whisk it.
This breaks the water crystals and gives the ice cream smooth texture.
When the mixture starts to set, add some chopped Oreos, cover and freeze for 5-6 hours.
Take the ice cream out of the freezer 15 minutes before serving.
