Chocolate and stout is a good old classic combination and I don’t know why I haven’t tried it before. When put in a brownie recipe, it gives such great flavor and texture and I honestly think that I haven’t eaten more delicious brownies. I decided to add a little crunch by incorporating some roasted hazelnuts but if you’re not a fan, feel free to skip them. I absolutely adore hazelnuts so for me they are a must have!
Brownies with Guinness
adapted from: http://laformuladelbiscotto.blogspot.com/
150 grams dark chocolate
50 grams unsalted butter
100 grams sugar
100 grams brown sugar
150ml Guinness or other stout
65 grams flour
45 grams cocoa powder
50 grams chocolate chips
50 grams roasted hazelnuts
Preheat your oven to 180°C.
Butter a 20cm square pan and line it with parchment paper.
Place the chocolate and the butter in a heat proof bowl and melt them in a double boiler.
While they are still warm, stir in the sugars and mix until dissolved. Beat in the eggs, one at a time and then pour in the beer.
Mix the flour and the cocoa powder and add them to the chocolate mixture, beating gently with a spoon or a spatula.
Pour the brownie batter in the prepared pan and sprinkle over some chocolate chips and hazelnuts. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center, comes out with a few moist crumbs.
Let it cool completely before slicing.
